Function
Objective
A Senior Manager - Legal Collection leads the legal strategy for recovering delinquent debts, overseeing litigation, arbitration, and compliance with debt collection laws. They manage external counsel, draft legal notices, negotiate settlements, and represent the company in court/tribunals, aiming to maximize recovery and minimize financial risk.
Key Responsibilities
Litigation & Recovery Strategy: Formulate and execute legal recovery strategies, including filing lawsuits, arbitration, and insolvency proceedings (e.g., NCLT/DRT) to recover outstanding dues.
Legal Action Management: Draft and review legal notices, demand letters, petitions, and pleadings (e.g., SLPs, interim applications).
External Counsel Oversight: Manage relationships with law firms and advocates, monitoring performance and litigation budgets.
Compliance & Risk: Ensure all collection actions comply with local, state, and central regulations (e.g., RBI guidelines, insolvency laws).
Negotiation & Settlement: Lead high-stakes negotiations with debtors to secure settlements or repayment plans.
Reporting: Maintain detailed records of cases and report status/risks to senior management.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Education: Law degree (LLB or JD) from an accredited law school.
Experience: 7–10+ years of experience in legal recovery, litigation, or corporate legal roles, ideally within banking or finance.
Knowledge: Expertise in civil law, debt recovery laws, and insolvency codes (IBC).
Skills: Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and leadership skills; strong written and verbal communication.
Licensure: Member in good standing with a state bar association.
